First redesign in forty years.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) revealed a new space suit design at an event at the Space Center in Houston, Texas. The new suit will be worn by astronauts on the Artemis III mission when the U.S. returns to the moon.
The new suit was built by Axion Space in collaboration with NASA and is called the Axion Extravehicular Mobility Unit, or AXEMU.
“NASA’s partnership with Axiom is critical to landing astronauts on the moon and continuing American leadership in space. Building on NASA’s years of research and expertise, Axiom’s next-generation spacesuits will not only enable the first woman to walk on the moon, but they will also open opportunities for more people to explore and conduct science on the moon than ever before,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said.
The space suit has a new look with colors black, orange, and blue, and it will be covered by a white insulation layer for thermal protection. It is flexible and NASA estimates that it will fit around 90 percent of both the male and female population of the U.S.
The U.S. return to the moon launch is scheduled no earlier than late November 2024 and is dependent on having the Human Landing System in place in a near-rectilinear halo orbit prior to the manned moon launch.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Administrator Nelson to seek God’s direction as he heads NASA.
- For NASA scientists and engineers as they prepare for a return to the moon.
- For U.S. astronauts who are in training and preparing for lunar missions.
